Mobile Ticketing is a mobile service offering the end user to receive textual and/or graphical content on a mobile phone, for example mobile event ticketing or travel ticketing. It comprises a process whereby customers can order, pay for, obtain and validate tickets from any location and at any time using mobile phones.

Mobile tickets reduce the production and distribution costs connected with traditional paper-based ticketing channels and increase customer convenience by providing new and simple ways to receive and store tickets. The main applications of mobile ticketing are: mobile check-in & boarding passes, event ticketing, travel ticketing (railway and bus), as well as consumer discount couponing & vouchers.

The main formats of purchasing and/or delivering m-tickets or coupons are SMS (via WAP-Push), MMS, mobile application / client and Near-Field Communications (NFC). The most advanced types of m-tickets use 2D barcodes to carry data.
