IMSI

IMSI (International Mobile Subscriber Identity) is used within the SIM card in all GSM mobile phones, to uniquely identify the mobile subscriber on a specific mobile network. An IMSI is usually 15 digits long. The first 3 digits are the Mobile Country Code (MCC), and are followed by the Mobile Network Code (MNC), either 2 digits (European standard) or 3 digits (North American standard). The remaining digits are the mobile subscriber identification number (MSISDN) within the network's customer base.

The IMSI and the MSISDN (telephone number to the SIM card in a mobile phone) are two important numbers used to identify a mobile phone. IMSI is often used as a key in the HLR ("subscriber database") and MSISDN is the number normally dialed to connect a call to the mobile phone.
