Convergence
Convergence
Convergence is an emerging trend in mobile telephony (also known as fixed-mobile convergence, or FMC). The main aim of convergence is to provide several services on a single phone or platform.
Converging services on the mobile device mean that the subscribers can use their handsets not only for calls and messaging, but also for internet, music and entertainment among others. Due to the advanced technological requirements, convergence typically occurs in high end devices or smartphones. The iPhone is the classic example of how mobile device convergence can be successfully achieved.
In addition, convergence can also be applied into back-end mobile platforms, enabling mobile operators to efficiently handle messaging, calls, internet access, content and applications from one powerful platform.
Combinational services are growing in prominence in mobile messaging, chief among these being those services which integrate SMS with voice, such as voice

,

to text and combined voice and SMS inbound in one number. In addition, several operators have launched services which combine SMS with
mobile instant messaging (MIM)
and presence.
Last but not least, the importance of telecom-web convergence is also rising.Telecom-web convergence is about simplifying the process of having to sign multiple agreements with different operators and then to manage the multiplicity of national regulatory constraints, protocols, languages, platforms and devices in one single point of access.
