Network Query

Network Query identifies which network a particular mobile phone number (MSISDN) belongs to, as well as providing an existence check for every MSISDN queried. Network Query is an essential service in areas where Mobile Number Portability is in place.

Accurate, real-time network information

Network Query identifies the network a mobile phone number belongs to, whilst identifying invalid and ported numbers, a service which is especially useful in markets where Mobile Number Portability is in use. By knowing the correct network information in advance, customers can avoid the incorrect routing of SMS due to MNP technical issues.  This reduces the costs and effort associated with incorrect routing and thus enhances quality and speed.

The service performs an HLR (Home Location Register) request for each query within the GSM network, providing information such as:

  • Operator’s name (in plain text).
  • A list of all the operator’s assigned MNCs.
  • The operator’s country name (in plain text).
  • Modified search algorithm providing detailed information about a queried MSISDN, even if the mobile handset is switched off.

With Network Query, you can:

  • Optimize SMS messaging routing.
  • Handle failed messages from routing.
  • Verify and update existing databases.
  • Relay of billing and data records in real-time to the subscriber’s home network operator.

Key benefits

Improve quality of data routing

Companies looking to enhance the quality and speed of routing in Mobile Number Portability environments can easily use Network Query. Organisations can benefit from real-time network information and can therefore perform a faster and reliable SMS delivery to the right network.

Room for cost reduction

In addition to routing optimisation, Network Query has the potential to reduce costs related to data traffic routed to non-existent or ported numbers.
