Long numbers now available in five additional countries
London, August 30, 2011 – Mobile interaction service provider tyntec (www.tyntec.com) has extended the reach of its long number mobile interaction product with the launch of additional coverage in UK Mainland, Ireland, Spain, Sweden, and Australia.
The new coverage means that tyntec can now offer companies local mobile numbers in multiple countries across Western and Northern Europe, as well as Australia, satisfying the growing demand for long numbers in those regions.
2-way SMS interaction as part of the mobile mix
The growing need for mobile interaction with businesses’ stakeholders is driving the demand for long numbers. Juniper Research expects A2P/P2A (application-to-person/person-to-application) traffic to increase from 720 billion messages annually in 2010, to nearly 2.4 trillion by 2016. By using tyntec’s long numbers to enable 2-way SMS interaction, companies can be assured of receiving the highest possible quality service.
Long numbers (e.g. 7+ digit numbers) are an alternative SMS reception and transmission channel to SMS short codes (e.g. 4+ numbers). They offer a number of benefits to companies looking to create a mobile interaction channel:
- Global reach – Unlike shortcodes, long numbers are internationally available and can be used by consumers when they are roaming. This means that companies can use them as a truly international communications channel.
- Cost – Long numbers cost significantly less to set up and operate than short codes. Consumers interacting with companies also just pay standard prices.
- Speed to market – A long number can be set up in a fraction of the time it can take to organise a short code.
- Consumer trust – Premium rate scandals of the past have negatively impacted consumer perceptions of short codes, an issue which can be avoided by the use of long number.
Long numbers offer a compelling alternative for a whole range of use cases like marketing and advertising campaigns, customer care, social networking, process management and other information services focusing on interaction.
Michael Kowalzik, CEO of tyntec, said: “Long numbers are a proven alternative to shortcodes and this launch means that we can now cater to the needs of companies and organisations in a broader range of countries.”
“Long numbers are a cost effective, internationally available, simple and trusted communications channel – any company looking to drive 2-way SMS interaction with their stakeholders should look at this technology as a core part of their mobile mix.”
