tyntec’s Annual Mobile Industry Survey Identifies the Leading Drivers for New Mobile Initiatives

Internet of Things, Customer Engagement Strategies and Cyber Security Are the Three Key Drivers for 2016 Mobile Initiatives

Munich/San Francisco February 25, 2016 – tyntec, a telecom-web convergence company, today issued the survey results of its third annual mobile industry survey. The findings show what’s driving new mobile initiatives across a diverse group of industry influencers, enterprises and mobile network operators. Among the top three drivers identified, customer engagement strategies surfaced as the second most relevant force at 29 percent, only after the recent surge related to Internet of Things (IoT), 37 percent, and followed by the perennial topic of cyber security, 12 percent.

tyntec conducted the industry survey by fielding its industry partners and customers, and social traffic leading up to Mobile World Congress 2016, which collected data from 326 respondents between January and February 2016.

The key findings include:

  • The top three mobile initiatives for 2016 is lead by IoT, with 37 percent, followed by customer engagement, 29 percent, and cyber security, 12 percent—additional initiatives identified include omni-channel communications, 10 percent, and employee mobility, 7 percent.
  • Overwhelmingly, marketing and special offers is the top customer-facing activity that uses messaging services, with 63 percent of respondents in agreement.
  • Other customer-facing activities that use messaging services include delivery/appointment alerts, 37 percent, and authentication, 33 percent.
  • According to the respondents, the top four departments that use messaging services are: marketing, 53 percent; IT/tech support, 47 percent; sales, 44 percent; and customer service/CRM, 42 percent.

“Since mobile is so central to consumers’ lives, it comes as no surprise that it dominates marketing and customer engagement initiatives for businesses,” said Thorsten Trapp, co-founder and CTO of tyntec. “The challenge is to understand the changing behaviors of consumers in multiple markets each business needs to win—and integrating pertinent communication channels across their customer touchpoints and workflow. The ubiquity of mobile connectivity has given birth to various tools that businesses can use. We are headed to more exciting possibilities where all communication channels can merge and help businesses engage consumers around the world.”
