The technology behind the International Messaging Transit (IMT) service is based on a sophisticated infrastructure that combines mainly SS7 and SMPP connection methods and other features:
- Mobile operators can connect to IMT through SS7 and SMPP as connection protocols. Both connection methods are non-intrusive, and only require configuration changes within the network of the mobile operator.
- For connections via SS7, the signalling relationship for SMS will behave in exactly the same way as a bi-lateral roaming agreement.
- If SMPP is chosen instead, TynTec’s SMS-C will handle SMS requests on behalf of the operator. TynTec’s SMS-C will send back delivery reports to the operator’s SMS-C, as well as forwarding inbound messages received through the hub.
- IMT messages are sent via SS7 as separate signals (SRI_SM and FW_SM) via the normal signaling link of the mobile operator, or are converted by the mobile operators into SMPP to be transmitted over an IP link.
- IMT offers a transit service for messages between all access technologies, providing a full set of conversion and transit mechanisms for SMPP-to-SMPP, SS7-to-SS7, SMPP-to-SS7 and SS7-to-SMPP, to ensure that all types of partner operators are reachable.
- Message delivery stays in control of mobile operators’ own SMS-C.
