What is Enterprise Quality Messaging?

Enterprise quality SMS is the next stage on from standard, consumer SMS.  Facilitated by TynTec’s operator relationships and TynTec’s technology, enterprise quality SMS guarantees a rapid delivery (15 seconds) as well as offering rich data about SMS communications.  For example, all SMS sent via TynTec get a delivery receipt to prove they have been received by the target phone, which is vital for use in mission critical applications.  Additionally, TynTec can provide.strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for messaging, guaranteeing reliability, security and traceability.

Why TynTec is not considered an aggregator? (What is the difference between TynTec and SMS aggregator?)

An SMS aggregator is a mobile telecom company that has multiple agreements with operators to send and receive data into and out of the operator’s SMS-Centre. Aggregators lack direct access into the SS7 protocol. These providers have no visibility and control over the message delivery, being unable to offer delivery guarantees.

TynTec, unlike SMS aggregators, does not connect to operators’ SMSCs to send SMS. The company has its own SS7-connected SMS-C's and has its own TynTec Global Titles as well as  own international signaling point code. This gives TynTec the same messaging capabilities as a mobile network operator and enables the offering of greater speed, reliability and measurability.

How can you guarantee SMS delivery?

TynTec’s direct multiple points of access into the deep level telecoms network, known as SS7, means that it retains control and visibility of the message from its own SMS-C right up to the recipient’s phone.  Unlike with an aggregator, who can only guarantee delivery to an operator’s SMS-C, TynTec can see the message has reached the relevant phone and can thus send a receipt guaranteeing delivery.  If phone is switched off or out of GSM coverage then TynTec guarantees that the message is immediately delivered when the phone is switched on or re-enters the coverage area.

TynTec is the only company in the world with multiple access points and the only SS7 pure-play. This offers clients significant advantages:

  • Resilience – with multiple entry points into SS7, messages can be re-routed in the case of failure of one SS7 connection.
  • Cost – with many routes available through different network operators, TynTec is able to route SMS by using the most economic route to a particular operator.
  • Coverage – each network operator partner in TynTec’s portfolio has roaming agreements with a different selection of operators globally. This means that TynTec can offer a global coverage portfolio to its clients.
  • Standards – with a European and a US network operator partner, both main GSM standards (ETSI and ANSI) are covered, meaning that TynTec can send messages in the standard of the destination network, avoiding errors or delays in the conversion of messages.
  • Homogeneous interface – TynTec provides one standard interface with one level of service for all destinations.

What are the SLAs provided by TynTec?

TynTec is leading the industry in the provision of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). TynTec’s technology, combined with the strict SLA, upgrades its SMS services to a higher quality level than traditional ‘consumer’ SMS, leveraging its SMS to be used in enterprise applications. The company SLA has four key promises:

  • Platform availability: TynTec gives the customer platform availability in percentages on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. This guarantees up to 99.999% platform availability on a six month basis.
  • Message delivery time: The percentage of deliverable messages delivered in 15 sec / 175 seconds (standard defined by ETSI).
  • Platform throughput: A guarantee that TynTec’s SMSC is able to handle high volume traffic within certain criteria, e.g. the amount of SMS handled per second. Customers can contractually tailor guaranteed throughput to 5, 10, 20 or 50 SMS/second.
  • Fault Fix Times: in case of outages, TynTec gives full support and communication to customers until the problem is solved, featuring a 24/7/365 technical support with guaranteed fault fix times.

What is SLA?

SLA is a service level agreement assuring a certain quality of services provided. SLAs set out the service parameters in which a solution is guaranteed to perform. In the world of the web, for example, it might define service uptime or server response time. Whatever parameters are important to the purchasing business can be defined in an SLA and failure by the supplier to meet the terms of that SLA can be counted as breach of contract and punishable by financial penalties.

What is SS7?

Signaling System 7 (SS7) is the protocol used by the mobile network operators to transport certain mobile services such as SMS, MMS and other value-added services in the GSM network. It has traditionally been a closed environment to anyone other than network operators and therefore TynTec’s access into this world is a unique advantage.

What is the technology behind the usage of different SS7 Access Providers?

TynTec developed a ‘multi-homed’ SMS-C capability as well as dynamic routing in the SS7 network- the Supernet SMS-C. This architecture enables TynTec to provide its customers with an improved quality of service in SMS transmission by having several delivery options through different SS7 Access Providers.

The new SMS-C architecture gives TynTec an unparalleled level of resilience in its own SMS operations.  The structure enables the company to re-route SMS on the fly to any of its SS7 Access Partners using its portfolio of SS7 connections.

Supernet SMS-C effectively allows one SMS-C to operate in several SS7 Access Providers’ networks at the same time. The advantage of this model is that this re-direction might even take place during the SMS delivery process or simply re-directed to different routes for resilience, e.g. when a hub is down.

The multi-hub routing is fully transparent to the customer. No additional setting is required by the customer to enjoy the advantages of the multi-provider routing.

What is the nature of the partnerships with SS7 Access Providers such as Manx Telecom?

TynTec’s relationships with Manx Telecom, Digicel Jamaica, Alands Mobiltelefon and CTM Macau are close working partnerships where TynTec is given deep level access into the operator’s SS7.

The relationship is far closer than that between and aggregator and an operator, where there is a simple agreement to send and receive data into and out of the operator’s SMS-C.
