Ryan Jones, Chairman of the Board

Ryan Jones today serves as Chairman of the Board and is a member of tyntec’s Board since 2012. He joined the direct investment group in HarbourVest’s London-based subsidiary in 2009 and serves as a vice president.

Ryan is involved in all aspects of direct investment activity, including monitoring growth equity and buyout portfolio investments. He joined HarbourVest from Deloitte in London where he managed merger and acquisition due diligence for both corporate clients and private equity firms.

Ryan received a BSc in Economics and Accounting from the University of Bristol and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Craig MacDonald, Board Member

Craig MacDonald currently serves as a vice president at HarbourVest Partners and joined tyntec’s Board in 2014.

Craig has more than 13 years of experience, in both European and American markets, evaluating and executing direct investments in growth equity and buyout transactions. His prior experience includes a consumer finance analyst position at Morgan Stanley in New York and investment analyst positions with Citigroup Global Markets in New York and London.

Craig received a BA in Political Science and Information Systems from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2001, where he was a Morehead Scholar.

Dr. Ralph Eric Kunz, Co-Founder and Board Member

Dr. Kunz co-founded tyntec and served as its first CEO designing the company’s business architecture. He is a member of the company’s Board of Directors, serving as Chairman of the Board from October 2004 to July 2014.

Ralph is a serial entrepreneur who, in addition to tyntec, has founded various other successful companies, such as Deutsche Messe Interactive GmbH, a joint venture with Deutsche Messe AG.

Ralph has more than 20 years of experience in the IT, media and telecom industries taking on various roles: as entrepreneur, in top-level management, strategy consulting, and venture investing. He worked with the Boston Consulting Group before running a Neue Markt-listed technology holding company. Subsequently, he was in charge of building and co-heading the venture capital branch of Bertelsmann AG. Most recently he held senior executive positions within Nokia Corporation, specifically as VP Business Development as well as founder and general manager of Nokia’s Navigation and Search business (now known as “Here”).

Ralph is Managing Partner of Catagonia Capital (www.catagonia.com), a Berlin-based consulting and investment company which is a major shareholder in tyntec.

Ralph holds a PhD in physics and a Masters in economic policy from the Technical University of Berlin/University of Chicago. He is author of various patents and an active participant in the Berlin-based startup-scene.

Thorsten Trapp, Co-Founder, CTO and Board Member

Serial entrepreneur Thorsten Trapp co-founded tyntec in 2002. His deep knowledge on the technical side of telecommunications combined with his ability to spot emerging trends and develop products and services to meet industry demand mean he is a highly regarded industry expert who is a regular feature in the global trade press.

Based in the company’s technical headquarters in Dortmund – where he studied computer science and biology at the Technical University – Thorsten developed the company's Mobile Messaging platform architecture which powers tyntec’s core business and is chiefly responsible for the company’s technical innovations and intellectual property. In this capacity he authored all nine of tyntec’s patent families and has been named in 33 patent applications in total. Amongst others, he is the inventor of tyntec’s dynamic SS7 platform, its Mobile Number Portability System and disruptive tt.One product.

Thorsten is a hands-on CTO who is active in driving many parts of the business, including the development of new business models to support tyntec’s products and services. He is also experienced in negotiations with investors and global enterprise clients. In addition, he possesses first-hand management experience in successfully overseeing the growth and transformation of his company from a handful of employees to the global 150-person company it is today.

Having played a key role in bringing enterprise-level SMS services to multinationals on a global scale, Thorsten believes that the next challenge the telecommunications industry faces is to master the convergence of telecommunications and emerging IP-based communication systems.

Erkan Kilicaslan, Board Member

Erkan Kilicaslan is a Partner at Iris Capital and responsible for international investments in the media, entertainment, communications and IT sector. He joined tyntec’s board upon Iris’ investment in December 2010.

Erkan has solid venture capital experience, joining Iris Capital in 2005 from TecVenture Partners, and has been responsible for investments, M&A, strategic positioning and technology growth management in a range of related sector companies. Previously he has worked for Technologieholding VC (now 3i Group) as an Investment Manager as well as at McKinsey & Company. He is also currently on the board at Human Inference, Clear2Pay and 1-2-3.TV.

Erkan has a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany, studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Electronique et de Radioélectricité de Bordeaux (ENSERB) and holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School (Boston).

Dr. Markus Toporowski, Board Member

Dr. Markus Toporowski works as a temporary consultant and manager and joined tyntec’s Board in July 2010.

Markus has more than 13 years’ experience in different industries. He has worked in different senior management positions (CTO/COO/CFO/ Advisory Board member) in a variety of companies (Deutsche Börse AG, COLT telecom, Dalli Werke Gmbh&Co Kg, Techem AG) and has extensive experience of large scale implementations and reorganizations. In 2009 he became an independent consultant and manager. Presently he works for a number of companies as an Advisory Board member or senior manager.

Markus holds a PhD in physics from RWTH Aachen (Rheinisch Westfälische Technische Hochschule Aachen), Germany.
